Reminder - Ch. 4 Reading Outline (Notes) are DUE tomorrow.
We will have our Chapter Reading Quiz TOMORROW. Below is the presentation we discussed in class over the last couple of days. Be prepared and finish reading the chapter if you haven't already done so!
- In this activity, using the data spread sheet hyperlinked below these instructions, you will identify examples of countries in Stage 2, Stage 3 and Stage 4 of the Demographic Transition Model. Your group will find two country examples in each of those stages for a total of SIX (there are no countries in Stage 1, so that stage will be skipped in this exercise). You will use the world averages for their baseline information. The world average for birth rate and death rate are BR = 20 and DR = 8. Similar to the rules of the Scattergories board game, your group will attempt to find the most unique countries in each stage from the rest of the groups.
- A Stage 2 country has a high birth rate and a high death rate.
Stage 2 example: Mali (BR = 45, DR = 15)
- A Stage 3 country has an average birth rate and a lower than average death rate.
Stage 3 example: Nicaragua (BR = 23, DR = 5)
- A Stage 4 country has a lower birth rate and an above average death rate.
Stage 4 example: Germany (BR = 8, DR = 10)
